The City of Monmouth recently adopted an ordinance to allow short term rentals subject to certain standards. Learn what you need to do to make your short term rental legal.
The City recently adopted an ordinance to allow short term vacation rentals such as Air BnB and VRBO. Vacation rentals are a popular form of transient lodging for individuals or groups seeking overnight accommodations in a comfortable, home-like setting. Short term rentals are defined as overnight stays of 30 nights or less. The City’s short term rental standards are intended to balance the need for overnight visitor accommodations, while maintaining the supply of permanent housing stock and preserving the residential character of Monmouth’s neighborhoods. As of December 19, 2019, any property owner that wishes to conduct a short term rental out of their home is required to register the dwelling with the City. More information on how to register a short term rental dwelling is available on the City’s website under “City Services, Permits and Licenses, Short Term Rental Registration."
