City Utility Billing

The City of Monmouth’s Finance Department generates approximately 4,750 utility bills at the first of each month for Electric, Water, and Sewer service.  These bills represent the consumption from approximately the 15th of the previous month to the 15th of the current month. Utility bills are due on the 15th of each month.  Reminder Notices are sent out on the 16th.  The last day to pay the bill without a late fee is the 23rd.  Shut Off Notices are sent out on the 24th and late fees are assessed at that time. If any of the above dates fall on a weekend or a holiday then the due date or notice date is moved forward to the next business day. Disconnection for non-payment typically occurs during the first week of the next month.  All customers are on the same billing cycle.  The example below illustrates the timing of all utility bills:

       Initial Billing:

Consumption Period:                               September 15th – October 15th

Billing for Above Consumption:             October 31st Utility Bill (mailed on the 31st)

Utility Bill is Due by:                                  November 15th


If Not Paid:

Reminder Notice Mailed:                        November 16th

Late Fee Assessed:                                 November 24th

Shutoff Notice Mailed:                              November 24th (if renter, landlord is copied)

Disconnection for Non-Payment:           First Tuesday in December
