Independence Heritage Museum

Polk County Museum
Located in Rickreall, the Polk County Museum is supported and maintained by the Polk County Historical Society and displays an array of local historic artifacts. (503-623-6251)
Built in 1861, located west of Salem on Highway 22, the home serves as a renovated model of the first farm houses in Polk County. The home includes a blacksmith shop, a machine shed and an organic demonstration garden. The home is open for tours by appointment. (503-588-1955)
Ritner Creek Covered Bridge
Located 3.5 miles south of Peedee, this was the last standing covered bridge to serve a state highway. The bridge has been restored numerous times but still maintains its original form, built in 1927.
Located just north of the Western Oregon University campus, the Gentle house is a preserved farm house of one of the original settlers. The home is open for tours by appointment and may be rented for events. (503-838-8673)
